Out of the 149 households in North Libertyville Estates (NLE), we currently have approximately 30 households in our voluntary association, North Libertyville Estates Community Association (NLECA). The voluntarily board is working for the betterment of the community. We have attended meetings, gathered information on the substantial increase in flood insurance premiums, and petitioned Senator Schneider to address Congress on our behalf. We also urged this community to petition Senator Schneider. In the past, NLECA was integral in securing the protective levy plus sewer and water systems, thus enhancing property values. Less political, but nonetheless important, are NLECA community enhancement contributions. Petitioning Libertyville Township for a mosquito abatement program, planting flowers and mowing common areas, painting signs and benches, cleaning the pond area of debris, and organizing community events to strengthen and create a sense of community spirit and neighborliness are a few of our endeavors.

FLOOD INSURANCE PREMIUM INCREASE PRESENTATION: The Annual Board meeting was held on March 31, 2014 at Libertyville Township Village Hall. Thank you to those who attended and brought their suggestions and support. A flood insurance premium increase presentation was given by Ann Maine. Ann stated she is receiving information from the National Association of Counties (NACO) regarding the increase in flood insurance. She will apprise us of any new developments regarding increased costs and regulations. Ann urged the community to contact Senator Brad Schneider at IL10BSima@mail.house.gov and express our distress over the increased cost of mandatory flood insurance. She believes that current premiums will be grandfathered to future home buyers or those who remortgage their single family homes. All available information is fluid at this time. Updated information will be posted on her webpage through Lake County. Ann invited all Lake County residents to sign up for her newsletter. Questions should be addressed to Ann Maine at AMaine@Lakecountyil.gov.
Libertyville Township Supervisor, Kathleen O‘Connor, gave a short presentation on the function of the Libertyville Township Offices which provide a food pantry along with general and financial assistance. Contact Kathleen at koconnor@libertyvilletownship.us. Kathleen provided a summary of the Grimm-Waters Homeowners Affordability Act of 2014. This summary of flood insurance changes is being provided HERE.
Mosquito Abatement: The Township Board has again approved 4 Mosquito Abatement sprayings with one additional if necessary during the 2014 summer season. Clark will evaluate the most effective time for spraying. Telephone notification of spraying is available by contacting Clark at 847-671-3128 and providing a phone number. Mosquito control dunks are available during the summer months at Libertyville Township offices. Each household may acquire 4 dunks per visit. Two additional sprayings have been approved by NLECA if membership reaches 50 households.
COMMUNITY BEAUTIFICATION will continue. Flowers and planting will be done by Kevin Mach and Lori Harper. Kevin and Lori will work on repairing and refurbishing the NLE sign at the East End entrance to the community. Rohn Hebel has continued to offer landscaping services to NLE. Thank you to Kevin, Lori and Rohn. Since the Des Plaines entrance sign has been removed, placement of a new sign is under evaluation. Ann Maine states placement on the right-of-way may be difficult.
SPRING CLEAN UPwill NOTbe provided by the township this season. The need for spring clean up is determined by Mike Graham, our new highway commissioner. With advanced notice, one large item may be placed at curbside each week for pick up by your waste management company. Mike Graham provided tree trimming and removal, common space maintenance, and snow and litter removal in NLE. Road maintenance, signage repair, replacement, and removal are on his agenda. Mike is interested in eliminating/controlling the cattails and weeds growing in the NLE pond. He would like the area to reflect a park-like atmosphere. Dredging the pond is probably out of his jurisdiction but he will look into possible improvements. He will do a walk through the neighborhood with the board to determine our needs. He welcomes community suggestions which can be made by phone, or through the Libertyville Township. Mike Graham: 847-362-3350 or at website, libertyvilletownship.us/.
